St. Ambrose Theatre Presents Alumni/Faculty/Student Production of "Death of a Salesman"
posted on: Aug. 17, 2004

The St. Ambrose University Theatre Department will present “Death of a Salesman” at 7:30 p.m. on September 9, 10 and 11, and 3 p.m. on September 12 in Allaert Auditorium in the Galvin Fine Arts Center on the SAU campus.

This particular performance of Arthur Miller’s classic is a special alumni/faculty/student production featuring Michael Kennedy and Corinne Johnson, professors of theatre at St. Ambrose. Actors and designers from as far as New York City and Los Angeles, Calif., are returning to take part in the show.

In “Death of a Salesman,” Willy Loman has spent his life following the American way, living out his belief in salesmanship as a way to reinvent himself. But somehow the riches and respect he covets have eluded him. At age 63, he searches for the moment his life took a wrong turn, the moment of betrayal that undermined his relationship with his wife and destroyed his relationship with Biff, the son in whom he invested his faith. Willy lives in a fragile world of elaborate excuses and daydreams, confusing past and present in a desperate attempt to make sense of himself and of a world that once promised so much.

The show is under the direction of Matt Speak, stage managed by Ted Stephens III and assistant directed by Daniel D.P. Sheridan. A complete list of the cast and crew can be found at www.sau.edu/salesmanproject.

Reserved seats for the show are $10. Reservations are recommended, but not required. For tickets, call the Galvin Center Box Office at 563/333-6251 or visit www.sau.edu/galvin.
