Galvin Fine Arts Center, Allaert Auditorium
Friday, October 28, 2005 at 7:30 p.m.
Simon Shaheen is a renowned virtuoso of both
the oud (lute) and violin, and is generally accepted as
today’s greatest living Middle Eastern instrumentalist. Born
in Galilee, he’s collaborated with many internationally
renowned artists, and served as director/arranger for the
Arabic string section that backed Sting and Cheb Mami at the
Grammy Awards. Simon Shaheen is also a internationally
acclaimed composer. His film compositions include Sheltering
Sky, Malcolm X, and the United
Nations documentary For Everyone Everywhere.
Qantara is Simon Shaheen’s vision of world
fusion music, a group of brilliant performers who bring
together Arabic music, jazz, western classical, Indian, and
other styles to create a scintillating show. These musicians
are among the most sought-after stars on their instruments.
Full of fire and adventure Qantara boldly crosses boundaries
in a way few could hope to imitate.
