Why Gerontology?

The U.S. census projects the number of Americans 65 years and older will double to 70 million by 2030. In response, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that job opportunities in geriatrics and gerontology are expected to grow by more than 35 percent through 2006, ranking among the most rapidly growing employment areas in the United States.

Every facet of life is touched by the rapidly growing aging population, including the family, economy, health services delivery, government, the private sector, businesses, and religious institutions.
