KIN 418/419 Internship  Requirements

The internship is an important component of your education and your development in your major.  The site, location, and duties should provide you a link between classroom and work experience.  Therefore, prior to establishing a feasible internship, the student must present information to the University Kinesiology Internship Director (Dr. Michael Orfitelli) for approval.  Human Performance and Fitness students must take KIN 418 for 6 credit hours (300 hours as an intern). Sport Management majors may take either KIN 418 for 8 credit hours (400 hours as an intern) or KIN 419 for 10 credit hours (500 hours as an intern).  The following information must be presented for review:

  1. The proposed site.
  2. Location and address of site.
  3. Duties that will be performed.
  4. Contact person at the site that will supervise and evaluate intern.
  5. All information including name, address, phone, email of contact person.
  6. Schedule of intern working hours at site.

After the internship is approved, then the intern is responsible to meet all requirements, including the following to complete the course in good standing:

  1. The student is required to mark the date each day they attend the location of their internship.  At that time, they need to record all duties performed on that date and record the amount of time spent while performing these duties.
  1. This information must be turned in as the summary of duties and time at internship location.  This is referred to as the daily log.
  1. Both a midterm (150,200 or 250) hours and a final (300,400, or 500) hours evaluation must be completed and reviewed by supervisor and student and then sent to University Kinesiology Internship Director.
  1. Lastly, a formal project needs to be researched, written, and turned in for evaluation to the University Kinesiology Intern Director.  Examples of topics for this project include: a marketing proposal, a tennis tournament, an event proposal, or other approved by the University Kinesiology Intern Director.
  1. The final assessment (grade) will be based upon completion of all written work, the supervisor’s evaluation, and the University Kinesiology Internship Director.
