Wellness Concepts Information for Test-out

Students need to score 74% or better on each part of the Wellness test-out.  The test will only be given to a student once.  If the student does not pass with 74% or better, the class must be taken.        

Brief Course Description
Holistic overview of basic wellness concepts including health-related fitness, body maintenance, nutrition and weight management, substance use and misuse, stress management and chronic disease prevention. This course is a prerequisite to the activity courses.

Materials Required
Corbin, C. B., Lindsey, R., & Welk, G. (7th edition). Concepts of Fitness and Wellness: A Comprehensive Lifestyle ) Dubuque, IA, McGraw-Hill. Be sure to use the correct edition - the material has been updated and chapters have changed.  The Test is based on the following chapters in this edition:

Exam: The Test-out exam includes 2 parts with a possible 100 points for each part.  Passing score: 74 points on each section required.

Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to emphasize the importance of adopting and maintaining a lifetime fitness program and adherence to positive lifestyle behaviors to improve health and quality of life.  The specific objectives of this course are to:  

  1. Determine the requirements for safe exercise practice.

  2. Identify sound dietary and weight control practices.

  3. Determine ways to assess and improve health-related fitness status.

  4. Assess personal risk potential for cardiovascular disease, cancer, and stress-related illness.
