McCaffrey and Walch Irish Studies Collections

McCaffrey Collection
Lawrence McCaffrey '49, professor
emeritus of history at Chicago's Loyola University and one of the world's foremost historians of Ireland and Irish America, donated his collection of nearly 400 Irish studies books and journals to SAU Library in early 2000.

Information about the McCaffrey Collection is available on the library website at http://library.sau.edu/irish/indexA.htm

McCaffrey's donation only represents a beginning to the collection. The Irish Studies program is currently seeking community support to endow the McCaffrey Collection to ensure that it continues to grow as the Irish Studies program does.

Walch Collection
On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2005, SAU was given
another major collection of 1,800 Irish and Catholic Americana books. The Timothy Walch Collection covers a broad range of topics on Irish, Irish American, and American Catholic life. This donation enhanced the university’s current Irish Studies collection, increasing it to approximately 2,200 books. Read more about this donation from a story on the SAU website and a story from The Catholic Messenger

To make a donation, please make a check payable to: St. Ambrose University, Irish Studies Program, and mail it to:
