Bees New Addition Dixon ranked in Illinois' Top 70
Davenport, IA - David Dixon, the latest addition to the Fighting Bees roster, is garnering a
lot of buzz around the St. Ambrose campus. On Wednesday, Dixon, a 6'4 wing
from Westchester, Illinois, signed his letter of intent to join the Fighting Bees
basketball team for the 2008-09 season.
Ranked as the 17th best wing-player and the 67th best overall player in Illinois
by the City/Suburban Hoops Report, Dixon averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and
1.2 blocks during his senior
campaign, while shooting 54% from the field. Dixon was named the MVP of the St.
Charles East Thanksgiving Tournament and was an All-Conference selection in the
East Suburban Catholic Conference.
Dixon was named All-Area by the Suburban Life and was All-Area Special
Mention by the Chicago Sun-Times. In the East Suburban Catholic Conference vs.
Catholic League All-Star game, Dixon dropped in 18 points to finish his high
school career.
“David Dixon brings outstanding athletic ability to both the men’s basketball
and track programs,” Coach Ray Shovlain said. “We’ve had several outstanding
players from St. Joe’s from legendary coach Gene Pingatore.”
Current Fighting Bee Alex Washington and former All-American Chris Washington
were both St. Joseph’s products and Coach Shovlain expect nothing but the same
from Dixon.
“Even though David’s only 6’4’’, he plays significantly bigger around the
basket,” Shovlain said. “He is an outstanding leaper with a 35 inch vertical
and his uncanny ability to get to the ball makes him an outstanding rebounder.”
