Steve, Jared and Lauren Doerfler become the newest edition to the Bees family, by signing to play for St. Ambrose.

St. Ambrose University Men’s Golf Coach Jeff Griebel is excited to announce the signing of one of the top high school golfers from Northern Iowa.

Jared Doerfler, a senior at Newman Catholic High School, Mason City, Iowa has signed a letter of intent and will attend St. Ambrose in the Fall 2007.  He is the son of Lauren and Steve Doerfler of Mason City, Iowa.

During his junior season at Newman, Doerfler was medalist in two tournaments and was named his high school teams Most Valuable Player.  He was captain of the Newman boy’s golf team his junior year and qualified for the Iowa High School Class 1A State Championship in 2004 and 2006.

Doerfler was named to the Northern Iowa Boy’s Golf All-Conference 1st Team as a sophomore & junior. He finished as 8th place individual at the 2006 Iowa High School Class 1A State Tournament and was named to the 1st Team All State squad.

“We are very pleased to have a player the caliber of Jared Doerfler joining our golf program next season, “ said Coach Griebel.  “He has played for a very talented and successful high school program at Newman Catholic and will bring experience and confidence to our team next fall”.

Doerfler will be joining a St. Ambrose golf team that has won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region 7 Championship and qualified for the national golf tournament nine of the last ten years.  St. Ambrose had a school record 3rd place team finish at the 2004 NAIA Men’s golf National Tournament and finished in 4th place in 2006.  They are currently ranked 5th in the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf National Poll.
