St. Ambrose University Men’s Golf Coach Jeff Griebel is excited to announce the signing of one of the top collegiate golfers from Northern Illinois.

Shaun Donnelly, currently a sophomore at Rock Valley College (IL) has signed a letter of intent and will transfer to St. Ambrose in the fall 2007.  Donnelly will have two years of athletic eligibility remaining at St. Ambrose.  He is a 2004 graduate of Boylan Central Catholic High School, Rockford, Illinois.

Donnelly finished 3rd at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Boys Class AA State High School Tournament in 2003.  His Boylan High School team won the 2002 IHSA Boys Class AA State Golf Championship.

After attending Western Illinois University on a golf scholarship his freshman year, Donnelly transferred to Rock Valley College his sophomore season.  In the fall of 2006 Donnelly placed in the top 10 in seven of the eight tournaments that Rock Valley competed in. He will finish his career at Rock Valley this spring by competing in the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III National Tournament in Chautuaqua, New York.

“We are very pleased to have a player the caliber of Shaun Donnelly joining our golf program next season, “said Coach Griebel.  “He is transferring from a great NJCAA Division III program at Rock Valley College and will bring experience and confidence to our team next fall.”

Donnelly will be joining a St. Ambrose golf team that has won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region 7 Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Golf Tournament nine of the last ten years.  St. Ambrose had a school record 3rd place team finish at the 2004 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship and finished in 4th in 2006.
