PND prep signs with SAU

St. Ambrose University Men’s Golf Coach Jeff Griebel is excited to announce the signing of one of the top high school golfers from Central Illinois.

Joe Habecker, a senior at Peoria Notre Dame High School (Illinois) has signed a letter of intent and will attend St. Ambrose in the fall 2008. 

During his senior year Habecker and his Notre Dame High School team qualified for the Illinois High School Class AA State Golf Championship and finished in 3rd place.

Habecker was named to the Mid State 6 Boys Golf All Conference 1st team in 2006 & 2007. In the summer of 2007 Habecker finished in the top 16 at the Chick Evans Junior Amateur Tournament & was the Peoria Park District Golfer of the Year for 15 & 16 year olds in 2006.

“We are very pleased to have a player the caliber of Joe Habecker joining our golf program next season, “ said Coach Griebel.  “He has played for a very talented and successful high school program at Peoria Notre Dame and will bring experience and confidence to our team next fall.”

Habecker will be joining a St. Ambrose golf team that has won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region 7 Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Golf Tournament ten of the last eleven years.  St. Ambrose had a school record 3rd place team finish at the 2004 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship in Olathe, Kansas and finished 4th in 2006. They are currently ranked 11th in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Poll.
