Byron's Schertz signs with the Bees

St. Ambrose University Men’s Golf Coach Jeff Griebel is excited to announce the signing of one of the top high school golfers from Northern Illinois.

Jacob Schertz, a senior at Byron High School (Illinois) has signed a letter of intent and will attend St. Ambrose in the Fall 2008.  He is the son of David & Ann Schertz of Byron, Illinois.

Schertz was co-captain of the Byron boy’s golf team his senior season that won the IHSA Boys Class A State Championship played at Prairie Vista Golf Club in Bloomington, Illinois.  Individually he had rounds of 74-68=142 finishing in second place and was named to the IHSA Boys Class A 1st Team All State squad.

Schertz also finished 1st at sectionals and 2nd at regional’s in 2007. He was voted most valuable player his junior year at Byron High School.  This year the Byron Boy’s Golf Team was named MVP.

“We are very pleased to have a player the caliber of Jacob Schertz joining our golf program next season, “said Coach Griebel.  “He has played for a very talented and successful high school program at Byron and will bring experience and confidence to our team next fall”. 

Schertz will be joining a St. Ambrose golf team that has won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region 7 Championship and qualified for the national golf tournament ten of the last eleven years.  St. Ambrose had a school record 3rd place team finish at the 2004 NAIA Men’s Golf National Tournament and finished in 4th place in 2006.  They are currently ranked 11th in the 2008 NAIA Men’s Golf National Poll.
