Q: How is the MSITM program
different from traditional MBA/MIS programs?
A: The MSITM is designed specifically for those who
want to move into a management function within an IT
department. MSITM provides an overview of management topics,
such as finance, budgeting, and business operations, but
then focuses on IT specific topics. The IT topics are
presented in a manner that incorporates an in-depth study of
the underlying information technologies and how the
technologies can be used to support an effective enterprise.
Q: What are the prerequisites for the MSITM program?
A: The MSITM program requires that each student have
some background in networking, database, and programming. A
specific undergraduate degree is not required. A series of
up to 4 undergraduate courses may be needed for someone
coming from a non-computer background.
Q: If I need to take some of the
prerequisites, do I need to finish them before I start the
MSITM program? (back
to top)
A: No. The prerequisites are attached to specific
graduate courses and you must complete the prerequisite
before you start the specific graduate course, but there are
some MSITM courses that do not have prerequisites and you
may start those immediately upon acceptance into the
program.
Q: What are the entrance
requirements for the MSITM program?
A: The primary criterion used for admittance into the
MSITM program is undergraduate GPA. We require a 2.8 or
above (on a 4.0 scale) on all undergraduate work for
admittance. If your undergraduate GPA is between 2.6 and 2.8
you may submit additional supporting material for
consideration of acceptance.
Q: When are classes offered?
A: Since the MSITM program is designed for working
professionals, the courses are offered in the evening. Each
course meets one night a week for 12 meetings over the 15
week semester. The MSITM program follows the MBA evening
calendar.
Q: Can I be a part-time student or do I need to be
full-time? (back
to top)
A: This is entirely up to you. We encourage both
part-time and full-time students.
Q: Is financial aid available?
A: The financial support for graduate students is
limited, but we have two possible sources of aid. You may
apply for student loans through the Financial Aid office at
SAU. These are traditional student loans and require that
you submit a FAFSA for consideration. The second possibility
is a graduate assistantship. The MSITM program participates
in the COB assistantship program and MSITM students can
apply for consideration through the COB office. The
assistantships are limited and cover only a portion of the
tuition. There are no assistantships that provide support
for living expenses.
