Dr. Van Blair joined the faculty in the School of Social work in 2001, and became director in Summer 2008. Her educational background includes: a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University, an MSW from St. Ambrose University, a M.S. in Family Studies from Iowa State University, and a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from St. Ambrose University. Prior to joining the SAU faculty, Dr. Van Blair was in private practice full-time in Davenport, Iowa. As a practicing therapist since 1994, Dr. Van Blair still maintains her practice part-time seeing individuals, couples and families around a variety of presenting issues. Dr. Van Blair is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Iowa and a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Additionally, she serves as a Board Member for the Scott County Regional Authority as well as a consultant for a variety of local non-profit agencies.

Pamela Long joined the faculty of the School of Social Work as the Director of Field Education in 1999.  She received her MSW from Syracuse University and is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the State of Illinois.  Prior to her academic appointments, Ms. Long practiced social work for more than 20 years in mental health, health and substance abuse, public school and child welfare settings.  Her teaching interests include practice, field-based education, international social work and social work practice in mental health and schools.  Professor Long has written in the areas of political social work, international social work and Catholic Social Teaching.  She serves on agency boards and in community initiatives and has presented on a variety of topics locally and at national and international conferences.

Dr. Augustine joined the St. Ambrose School of Social Work faculty in 2009. In addition to receiving his PhD in Social Work in 2009 from the University of Denver at Denver, Dr. Augustine holds a Masters Degree in Social Work and an MPhil degree in Psychiatric Social Work from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences in India. Prof. Augustine’s recent research includes a study that investigated the increasing role of personal resources, family strengths, and social capital in promoting posttraumatic growth of survivors of a major disaster. His research aims to improve social work services for individuals, families, and communities affected by a disaster. Prof. Augustine has worked in a variety of clinical settings with the mentally ill, including inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, and community mental health centers.

Dr. DuBois has been a social work educator in Iowa for more than thirty years. Dr. DuBois received her masters degree in social work in 1977 at the University of Iowa and a doctoral degree in higher education administration at Illinois State University. She has extensive social work practice experience in public welfare, community planning, organizational development, and program evaluation. Dr. DuBois serves as a member on a number of community agency initiatives and as a board member to agencies in the Quad Cities. Dr.DuBois has co-authored two social work texts on empowerment in social work: "Social Work: An Empowering Profession" with Karla Miley and, "Generalist Social Work Practice: An Empowering Approach" with Karla Miley and Michael O'Melia.

Dr. Jerin has been on the sociology faculty at St. Ambrose for 16 years and with the MSW program since its inception in 1997. Dr. Jerin received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Purdue University. He has extensive research experience and teaches statistics and research courses in the program. His teaching and research interests are in health and health care issues, medical sociology, social movements, complex organizations, research methodology and statistical analysis. Dr. Jerin works with many local agencies on outcome measures for their services as required by various funding organizations. He is a research and statistical consultant to a local medical organization.

Dr. McCormick joined the faculty at St. Ambrose in 2009.  he received his MSW from the University of Texas at Austin and his PhD in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.  He has published and presented on a number of child welfare issues including the disproportionate overrepresentation of minority groups in child welfare, gay and lesbian issues in child welfare, as well as issues pertaining to the treatment of siblings in the foster care system.  Prior to coming to St. Ambrose, Dr. McCormick spent eight years working in the child welfare system in Texas.

Having received an MSW from University of Iowa, Prof. O'Melia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois with extensive practice experience in therapy with individuals, couples, families and groups. He specializes in teaching social work practice with particular interest and expertise in generalist, collaborative, and strength-focused methods. Mr. O'Melia is co-author of Generalist Social Work Practice: An Empowering Approach, and co-editor of Pathways to Power: Reading in Contextual Social Work Practice. He also functions as a community trainer, program consultant, and board member for family-oriented services.
