About the Festival
Featuring music by living composers, the festival is a celebration of new music and a unique opportunity to meet the composers who wrote it, sponsored by the Iowa Composers Forum and the St. Ambrose University Music Department. Concert performances will feature St. Ambrose University’s ensembles and performing faculty, and special guest artists from the region.
Schedule of Events and Concerts
Saturday, November 3
8–10 a.m., Festival Registration for Iowa Composers Forum members
10 a.m., Concert One – Chamber Music
Featuring SAU music faculty members Joan Trapp and Debbie Sanborne, and other faculty performers in works by Romig, Eckert, Gooch, Kendrick, Songayllo and Schimmel.
11:30 a.m., Lunch Break
1 p.m., Concert Two – Chamber Music
Featuring SAU music faculty members Joan Trapp and Debbie Sanborne, and other faculty performers in works by
Martin, Fowler, Schmitz, Schimmel, Wooldrige and Edmondson. Also includes recently added works by Owen and Rommereim performed by the River Cities Saxophone Quartet.
3:30 p.m., Concert Three – Choirs and Symphonic Band
St. Ambrose University Choirs conducted by Keith Haan, and the SAU Symphonic Band directed by Gene Bechen performing works by Merritt, Paccione, Wharton, Songayllo and Scheer, as well as wind ensemble music by Fowler.
5 p.m., Dinner Break
7:30 p.m., Concert Four – SAU-Community Symphony Orchestra
Featuring the orchestra with guest artist John Vana, saxophonist at Western Illinois, performing “Rural Symphony” by Jon Chenette, Grinnell College, and the “Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra” by SAU music faculty member and composer Bill Campbell.
Sunday, November 4
1 p.m., Concert Five – Murasaki Duo and the Krenzel-Doggett Duo Chamber Music
Featuring works by Dunker, Owen, Chenette and Vayo.
3 p.m., Concert Six – Quad City Wind Ensemble
(admission $5 adults/$4 students/ICF members admitted free w/paid festival registration)
Brian Hughes and SAU Professor Emeritus of Music Charles Dcamp in a concert of pieces by Iowa composers including Josh Reznicow and Peter Hamlin.
All events are open to the public and free of charge unless otherwise noted.
All events take place in the Galvin Fine Arts Center Allaert Auditorium.
