Young Conductor's Project
The purpose of the SAU Young
Conductor's Project is to provide an environment to introduce area high
school students to the art of conducting while presenting opportunities for
select individuals to experience “hands on” conducting, score study, and
private lessons.
Opportunities for the candidate selected will include:
- Conducting a piece with the SAU Symphonic Band in rehearsal and
performance on their March 29th concert.
- Receive feedback on conducting performance.
- Private conducting lessons in preparation for performance.
- Participation in sessions regarding: score study, rehearsal
techniques, how to practice conducting technique, literature, etc.
Who is eligible?
- Area high school musicians (Grades 9-12) who are currently
participating in their school’s band program.
- Students wanting to learn more about the art of conducting and
instrumental music education.
Application Process
Candidates must supply:
- Completed application including your band director’s signature.
Applications will not be accepted without your band director’s
signature.
- A list of musical accomplishments.
- A cover letter in support of your application (i.e. amount of
conducting experience, leadership positions held, etc.).
- A videotape of the applicant conducting a band or orchestra
