Admission and Transfer
Requirements
Department of
Nursing Admission Policy:
Admission to the Nursing
Major will occur following the submission of fall semester
sophomore grades, prior to starting nursing courses in the
sophomore spring semester.
Academic Admission
Requirements include:

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Prerequisite Courses: All but two pre-requisite courses
must be completed prior to admission; however, all
pre-requisite courses must be completed with a C grade
or higher prior to beginning the junior level courses.
Prerequisites include: BIO 101, BIO 202, BIO 211, NUTR
305, PSYC 105, PSYC 305, SOC 101.

Medical Terminology: Student must have completed a medical
terminology class prior to the start of nursing courses
in January.

CNA Certification: Every applicant must have current
Certified Nursing Assistant certification at the time of
application.

In the event there are more than 80 applicants a competitive
ranking process will apply that incorporates the number
of semesters a current SAU student has attended, overall
GPA, references, Documents of Concern, and an interview
with faculty.
Timelines
Application:
Submit completed Application, Application Checklist, and
supporting documentation for internal applicants by October
15th of the semester prior to the desired January
admission. External applicants for direct admission to the
nursing major have until November 25th to submit completed
admission application.
Pre-Registration:
Permission to pre-Register for Nursing (NURS) courses will be determined
by October 18th. Those students who have
cumulative 3.0 GPA (based upon completed courses only) and
will have met other requirements by the end of the semester
in which they apply to Nursing will be permitted to
pre-register for nursing courses. Students who do not meet
these criteria will register for courses outside the nursing
major. After final grades are submitted, the Admissions
Committee will determine which students will be accepted
into the major, and course registrations will be changed to
add or remove students from nursing courses.
Admission Decisions: By January 10th, the Department of Nursing Admissions
Committee will determine the applicants that will be
accepted into the Nursing major. Course registrations for
spring courses will be changed, as needed, to reflect
admission status into the Nursing major.

completed application documents to Department of Nursing

Mantoux 5TU PPD-T 2 Step Procedure for a
base line followed by Mantoux 5TU PPD-T annually (if
baseline Mantoux 5TU PPD was negative) (TB test)

Two MMR immunizations or proof of immunity
o
Documentation of chickenpox or varicella
titer
o
Current Tetanus
Background check completed upon
registration for Nurs 260.
