MOT Curriculum Image
A
path through the countryside was selected to depict our curriculum
design. This representation specifically reflects
our geographic setting (Iowa) and the livelihood of many of our
residents and students (farming). Additionally,
the image conveys a general understanding of life as a journey. Our
curriculum is built on a strong liberal arts foundation as depicted by
the ground underneath the path. The
bricks in the path represent the curricular threads of health,
occupation, professionalism, and ethical integrity. Students
may explore the scenery around them through a variety of field
experiences, independent study, or special topics courses.
As they travel through the curriculum, the scenery and their
understanding of it will change. They
will be able to stop and reflect on their past experiences, seeing
things that they missed when they initially explored these areas. Also,
the seasons will change, requiring students to adapt and adjust to
increasing demands and the changing practice environments. The
path is ongoing, denoting the need for continued growth and development
as they move from novice occupational therapists to experts in their
chosen area. (This image was created by artist Stan
