Shelli Engelbrecht received her
BS in Occupational Therapy and a Masters of Business
Administration in Health Care from St. Ambrose University.
Shelli has experience working with adults and older adults
with diagnosis related to cardiac, orthopedic, and
neurological issues and in various levels of care including
acute, rehabilitation, and skilled care. Her interests
include clinical education and the roles of supervisor and
student in successful clinical experiences, driving, and
agriculture.
Brenda Hughes completed her B.S.
Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Cardiac
Rehabilitation from Northern Illinois University. She also
studied at the Biofeedback Institute of Los Angeles, and was
certified as a Biofeedback Practitioner through the
Biofeedback Certification Institute of America. She worked
as a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA., then continued there as
an OT upon completion of her Master of Occupational Therapy
Degree from the University of Southern California. Her
research interests are: sensory processing in older adults
with dementia, physical rehabilitation strategies, OT
marketing and public relations, and the sociopolitical and
economic forces impacting the form and function of
occupational therapy.
Lynn
Kilburg received her BS
in Occupational Therapy and a Masters in Business
Administration from St. Ambrose University. She completed
her doctoral studies in Health Science through Nova
Southeastern University. Lynn has experience working with
children receiving early intervention and older adult
populations in skilled care, long term care, and home
settings. Much of her career has additionally focused on
leadership and management within the profession and broader
healthcare arena. Lynn is interested in advocacy of
Occupational Therapy, healthcare policy formation, and
health promotion as a means to ensure success in an
individual’s chosen occupations.
Theresa (Terry) Schlabach
received her BS in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State
University, her MA in Instructional Design and Technology
from University of Iowa, and is in the process of completing
her doctoral dissertation at Illinois State University with
research in the area of Asperger Syndrome and higher
education. Terry has experience working as an occupational
therapist with children and adolescents in a variety of
settings including early intervention, schools, community,
outpatient hospital, and residential psychiatric settings.
She is board certified in pediatrics and received the AOTA
Recognition of Achievement Award in Pediatrics in 2006.
Jill Schmidt received her BS in
Occupational Therapy and BA in Psychology from St. Ambrose
University. She completed her Masters of Health Service
Administration from the University of St. Francis. Jill has
experience in areas of inpatient rehabilitation, skilled
nursing, long term care, outpatient, home health and
ergonomics consulting. Jill has served in positions of
leadership in multidisciplinary therapy departments. Jill’s
interests include healthcare policy and advocacy, disability
rights and vision research.
Jon Turnquist has a BS degree in
Occupational Therapy and currently is completing his
Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership at St Ambrose
University. Jon has experience working with adult and
geriatric populations in rehabilitation, skilled care, long
term care, and home settings. Much of Jon’s career has
additionally focused on improving individuals’ safety and
independence through the use of assistive technology. Jon
holds a RESNA certification as an assistive technology
practitioner and has won numerous national awards for
assistive technology designs.
Christine Urish has a bachelor’s
and master’s degrees in occupational therapy from Western
Michigan University and a PhD in rehabilitation counseling
from the University of Iowa. Dr. Urish has authored chapters
on family issues and mental illness, personality disorders,
anxiety disorders and evidence based assessment in mental
health. She is board certified as a mental health
occupational therapist and her research interests focus on
empowering individuals with mental illness, effective
intervention for persons with mental illness and
professional development of therapists. Her doctoral
dissertation focused on the meaning of developing a
professional portfolio.
Phyllis Wenthe completed her
occupational therapy degree at the University of Kansas
and her doctoral degree in Health and Sport Studies at
the University of Iowa. Her experience has been with
individuals with physical disabilities, both congenital
and acquired, from adolescence to older adults. Phyllis
was drawn to the profession because of its emphasis on
promoting independence in meaningful activities through
environmental modification, adaptive methods and
creative problem solving. Phyllis is concerned about
equal access for individuals with a disability and is
interested in researching and promoting physical
activity and the opportunity for all individuals with a
disability to explore various sports and leisure
activities.
