and assessment can inform best practice and add to the evidence of occupational therapy outcomes.  Participants will gain hands on experience with new assessment and data collection techniques in order to monitor and plan client treatment as well as inform the profession’s domain of concern.

Course Format

This will be a hybrid course with in-class lecture and lab accompanied by an on-line format.

The class will meet four weekends (one per month starting in January.)

 

Weekend I:  January 23-24

Friday evening 2 hours

Saturday 4 hours

The purpose of this weekend would be to gain an overview of assessment and understand the parametrics related to the use of assessment

  

Weekend II:  February 20-21

Friday evening 4 hours

Saturday 6 hours

The focus of this weekend would be to gain knowledge and hands-on experience with the commonly used pediatric assessments.  Case studies would be presented to facilitate the use of clinical reasoning in the choice of the pediatric assessments.

 

Weekend III:  March 13-14

Friday evening 4 hours

Saturday 6 hours

The focus of this weekend would be to gain knowledge and hands-on experience with the commonly used assessments in the adult and older adult populations.  Case studies would be presented to facilitate the use of clinical reasoning in the choice of assessments.

 

Weekend IV:  April 10 - 11

Friday evening 4 hours

Saturday 6 hours

The focus of this weekend would be to gain knowledge and hands-on experience with the commonly used assessments used with clients with  psychosocial difficulties.  In addition, assessments used to evaluate clients/setting for assistive technology and universal design would be presented.  Case studies would facilitate the use of clinical reasoning in the choice of appropriate assessments.

 

Students would participate in on-line discussions between class meetings. 

 

COST:

 This course will meet 45 CEUs.  A commitment to register is due by January 5, 2009.
