Bryon Ballantyne, PT, PhD
Assistant Professor

Teaches in research methods, kinesiology/biomechanics, and functional anatomy.  His clinical experience is mainly in the area of outpatient orthopedics.  He has published several research articles on lower extremity injuries.   His doctoral studies were completed at the University of Iowa with an emphasis on motor control of posture and movement.

 
Dr. John BarrJohn O. Barr, PT, PhD
Professor
Teaches in professional development, neuroscience and geriatrics-related courses.  He is the author of textbook chapters concerned with TENS, instrumentation, and pain management for the elderly.  Dr. Barr is a former president of the Iowa Physical Therapy Association and Foundation, and received the Olive Farr Distinguished Service Award from the IPTA and the Lucy Blair Service Award from APTA.  He currently is the president of the Section on Geriatrics, APTA, and on the editorial board of The Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy and co-editor of the Geriatric Rehabilitation Manual.
 
Dr. Sandra CassadySandra L. Cassady, PT, PhD, FAACVPR
Director & Professor

Teaches cardiopulmonary physical therapy and exercise physiology.  She is past Editor of The Cardiopulmonary Journal and past Associate Editor of The Journal of Orhopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy.  Dr. Cassady has written numerous articles and abstracts on topics related to her areas of interest and is currently involved in a community-based risk factor reduction program for minorities and women. She has earned several professional awards for teaching, research and professional service.  She is a fellow of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and serves on the board of directors for this national organization.

 

Barbara Ehrmann, PT, MPT, MBA
Adjunct Instructor
Coordinates lecture in pathology and medical management.  She holds a bachelors and masters degree in finance from the University of Iowa and received her MPT degree from St. Ambrose University. Her clinical experiences include inpatient care, outpatient care, and industrial medicine settings.  She remains active in clinical practice and a variety of local school and community service organizations.

 

Dr. Kevin FarrellKevin P. Farrell, PT, PhD, OCS, FAAOMPT
Professor

Teaches kinesiology/biomechanics, orthopaedics, and is involved in several Transition DPT courses.  He serves as chair of the Transition DPT Program and is coordinating development of the residency program in Orthopaedics.  Dr. Farrell is a board certified orthopaedic clinical specialist and a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. He continues in part-time clinical practice and has interest in research related to manual therapy and ergonomic risk factors.  He is active in several campus and community service organizations.

 

Lynn FrankLynn M. Frank, PT, MPT, ACCE
Assistant Professor

Collaborates in implementing individual student plans for clinical education, and assists with neuromuscular therapeutics.  Her clinical experiences include acute care and rehabilitation, as well as pediatric consultation.  She is a board certified neurologic clinical specialist, is certified in neurodevelopmental treatment for adults with hemiplegia and is a credentialed trainer for APTA's Clinical Instructor Credentialing program.

 
Susan HartungSusan J. Hartung, PT, MA, ACCE
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Assists in implementing individualized student plans for clinical education.  Her own clinical experiences include acute care in a metropolitan tertiary care center, adult neurological rehabilitation in an urban hospital, pediatrics in public schools, and overseas teaching and practice.  She is an APTA credentialed clinical instructor.

 
Kathy LampeKathie E. Lampe, PT, MPT, CWS
Assistant Professor
Teaches physical agents, physical therapy procedures, issues in patient care, and integumentary therapeutics.  Her expertise includes geriatrics, and wound management. The author of abstracts, articles, a book chapter on wound evaluation, and book reviews. She is a certified wound specialist.  She is active in professional and service organizations and special interest groups, and practices at an area clinic. Mrs. Lampe was honored by being selected as the SAU Advisory Professor of the Year for 2002.

 
Mark LevsenMark J. Levsen, PT, MA, SCS, OCS, FAAOMPT
Assistant Professor
Teaches musculoskeletal therapeutics, orthotics and prosthetics, and differential diagnosis.  He is the co-founder of an outpatient orthopedic clinic where he currently practices.  He is a clinical specialist in sports and orthopedics and a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.

 
Michael Puthoff, PT, PhD
Assistant Professor

Teaches cardiopulmonary therapeutics, exercise physiology and assists with other topics such as muscle training and gerontology.  His PhD is in cardiopulmonary PT.  He is involved in clinical practice and serves as the research committee chair for the Iowa Physical Therapy Association.  
Teaches cardiopulmonary therapeutics, exercise physiology, PT procedures, and presents on topics in geriatrics. His research interest includes measuring function in older adults and the benefits of exercise and physical activity for older adults. His clinical practice includes work in nursing homes and in the outpatient setting focusing on older adults with chronic health conditions. He is a member of the Iowa Physical Therapy Association Board of Directors and a two-time recipient of the American Physical Therapy Association Section on Geriatrics Adopt-a-Doc award.

 

Nora RileyNora A. Riley, PT, MA, NCS
Assistant Professor

Teaches neuromuscular therapeutics.  Her clinical practice focuses on individuals with neurological disorders including stroke, brain injury, balance and dizziness disorders, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury.  Mrs. Riley is a clinical specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy, has a certificate of competency in the evaluation and treatment of vestibular disorders and is certified in neurodevelopmental treatment for adults with hemiplegia.
