About All Iowa Wheels for the
World
It is estimated that 20-30 million people worldwide are in need
of a wheelchair or other basic mobility equipment. Wheels for the World
is an outreach of Joni and Friends, a Christian non-profit ministry
which brings hope and mobility to persons with disabilities. Since 1994
Wheels for the World has distributed over 52,000 wheelchairs to over 102 countries. During 2009
Wheels for the World teams will travel to 20 countries, including Thailand, Guatemala, Cuba, Ghana, Poland,
Brazil, Romania and China, to give the gift of mobility to a needy child
or adult with disabilities.
All Iowa Wheels for the World
Since 1999, Wheels for the World volunteers in Iowa have
coordinated local wheelchair drives to collect over 1,400 used manual wheelchairs
plus
aluminum crutches and canes, foldable walkers and jogging
strollers. Donated wheelchairs are restored in regional correctional
facilities by inmates before being delivered by trained teams of seating
specialists and mechanics who individually fit each recipient to his or
her wheelchair.
This year we would like to extend this worthwhile mission across the
state. On Friday and Saturday, April 24 & 25, drop sites will be set
up in various cities throughout Iowa to collect these much needed
items. You can make a difference by your donation!
Sincerely,
Patsy Lawton, PT
