St. Ambrose Parking Permits: Online Ordering

St. Ambrose students, faculty and staff can obtain their parking permits online at www.thepermitstore.com. The entire online process is simple, with screen prompts to help along the way, and it take about five minutes or less to complete, says Robert Christopher, director of security.

Before logging on, it helps to know or obtain the following information:

  • Your email address
  • SAU student ID number or SAU employee number
  • License plate information (e.g., Iowa 123 ABC)
  • Make, model, style (e.g. Honda, Civic, 4-door), color and year of vehicle
  • A password of your choosing (at least six characters long)

The price for the student permit is $45 per year, and students can pay be check, VISA/MasterCard or have it charged to their student account.

Those registering their vehicle for a permit will get screen prompts along the way that will help take them step-by-step through parking registration. It may also be helpful to first read through the steps listed below, and then keep this webpage on hand as you go through the process.

  1. Open your web browser and go to the following address: www.thepermitstore.com
  2. Select “OK” in the dialog box alerting you to the fact you are about to enter a secure site.
  3. At the “Enter your parking destination” screen, type in SAU and select the “Submit” button.
  4. At the “Search Results” screen double click on St. Ambrose University.
  5. At the “Home Option” screen select the “Apply” button.
  6. Read the parking agreement and click in the “I agree” box.
  7. Move to the bottom of this screen and enter your email address. You will need to enter it a second time to verify it. Now you can enter the password you made up earlier. You will also have to re-enter this to verify it.
  8. Once you have finished select the “Continue” button.
  9. At the “Personal Information” screen please enter all the requested information. NOTE: If you are living on-campus it is highly recommended that you use your St. Ambrose address for your mailing address. At the bottom of this page you will be asked to enter some information to help verify who you are in the event that you forget your password. One of the security screens will ask for your birth date, but please understand that this is optional information only used to help verify your identity over the phone. Once you have completed this section select the “Continue” button.
  10. At the “Select Permit” screen choose the oval “Buy” button.
  11. You will now be taken to a screen where you can enter your vehicle information.
  12. Once you have completed this, select the “Add this vehicle” button. This may take a few moments to complete so please do not select anything during this time.
  13. After you have finished this step, follow the on-screen instructions to select a payment type. NOTE: If you are a Graduate Assistant whose parking is included in your contract, you must charge your permit to your student account, and then follow up by asking your advisor to send an email to the Director of Security verifying your assistantship.
  14. After this process is complete, a page will load displaying a receipt. Print out this receipt and select the oval button labeled “Temporary Permit.” Print the temporary permit.
  15. Select the finish button and you should receive an email explaining how to activate your permit once it arrives and how to add additional vehicles to your permit.

Place the temporary permit on your front dash where it can be seen.

Once your actual permit arrives in the mail you will need to log back onto the permit store website to activate your permit. This is a security measure to ensure your permit arrived safely. The permit is made of a static-cling material that will adhere to your windshield. Place it on the inside of your windshield on the passenger side.
