As the field of special education continues to grow, more teachers and recent graduates are realizing the benefits of additional studies. The Master of Education in Special Education at St. Ambrose University offers a quality program to prepare you for the challenges and rewards of this profession.

Individuals with a teaching certificate can earn special education licensure or a graduate degree through this program.

special education is rewarding! The program is designed to provide skills at a master’s level in the fields of learning, social, and developmental disabilities or delays. Faculty focuses on enhancing student assessment techniques, classroom intervention procedures, consultation skills, and parent communication skills.

Certified teachers who hold a current educational license are entitled to a special rate of one third off per credit hour. (A copy of your current teaching license is required to receive this rate.)

Mission Statement

St. Ambrose University’s Graduate Special Education Program is designed to assist individuals in the development of teaching skills specific to working with children and youth with special needs. Learning occurs in an environment that fosters honest, open communication through mutual respect.

The Graduate Special Education Program is committed to linking the practical application of teaching to the theoretical underpinnings involved in human motivation and learning. It is our belief that graduate students learn best when provided an atmosphere that encourages risk taking and creativity as well as practicality. Students should be allowed to explore their own beliefs and attitudes as these relate to the teaching of children and youth with special needs.
