It's Time For Faculty and Staff
To Lead a Great Study Abroad Experience!
Proposal Deadline for Winterim '09-'10 Course:
February 15, 2009
Proposal Deadline for a Spring, May Term, or
Summer '10 Course: June
15, 2009
6 Steps to Success:
1. Ask yourself: "What
is international about my discipline?"
Think about the international dimensions of what
you do. What could you learn by going abroad? How would your
students or colleagues benefit from an international experience? Dream
big, and brainstorm some ideas for teaching a course abroad, a faculty/staff
international exchange, or other possibilities!
2. Start the conversation:
Talk to
us about some international programs and
destinations that meet your goals. Together, we will collaborate to
develop the best plan that works for you. Once we have crafted some
concrete ideas, we will bring your department supervisor, your dean, and General
Accounting into the conversation. This will be a team effort!
3. Write a proposal:
If you
want to propose an international exchange or some other international venture,
we will write the appropriate proposal to suit our needs.
If you want to teach a course abroad, use
the
course proposal form
to write up a proposal. This proposal
will be submitted to your supervisors and to General Accounting for their
approval. Because they will have participated in our ongoing conversation
about your plan, they will already be informed and supportive of it. We
are happy to work with
you in writing the proposal and preparing the expense report. It is very
important that you are clear about how you expect the Center for International
Education to assist your program.
4. Market the program:
The Center
will help you to market your program according to your instructions in order to
achieve your enrollment goals. We will establish an application deadline and payment deadlines.
5. Prepare for the trip:
Once we achieve a critical mass of students, we can help you to organize and coordinate pre-departure workshops for the
students, where students will fill out
liability release
and
emergency contact forms and
prepare themselves for the trip. We also will be sure that the
faculty/staff leader is educated about the
international education crisis protocol
and is ready to handle any extraordinary situation that may arise.
6.
Pack your bags and send us postcards!
Let us know how you're doing overseas! Take lots of pictures, soak up every
cultural experience, and have a great time and come back ready and willing to
share your adventures with us on campus!
