Study Abroad Scholarships
SAU and its Partners
All SAU students accepted into a
study abroad semester program are eligible for a
Center for International Education Scholarship.
SAU
students enrolled in a major or minor in a foreign language or taking an
introductory language course abroad are eligible for the Language
Department's study abroad
scholarship
program
SAU
students enrolled in CCIS programs may apply for a $1000
CCIS Scholarship. A $500 scholarship is available for summer programs. Each
year SAU nominates one student for this scholarship. Contact
the Study Abroad Office for more information.
SAU students enrolled in Central
College Abroad programs may apply for the
Central College Abroad
Scholarships that they offer.
SAU students enrolled in ISA
programs may apply for
ISA
Scholarships.
SAU students enrolled in ICISP study
abroad programs may apply for
ICISP
Scholarships.
Federal
Pell Grant
recipients may apply for the
Gilman Scholarship,
a federal program targeted especially for students planning to study abroad in
countries outside of Western Europe or Australia.

Scholarship.
The
National Security Education Program David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships
are offered for those studying in a
world region critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe,
Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East). Western
Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. This scholarship
emphasizes the importance of language study appropriate to your
identified country as a major component of your study abroad program.
There also are NSEP Boren
Graduate Fellowships for those who would like to add an international and
language component to their graduate education.
The
Language Flagship is
another NSEP scholarship program that provides full financial support to
participate in Flagship Programs in Arabic, Central Asian languages, Korean,
Mandarin, Persian, and Russian. This program involves on year of intensive
language study in the US, and one year in an immersion program overseas.
Graduate Business Students can consider
the Emerging Markets Development Advisers
Program (EMDAP). This program works in conjunction with the Institute
of International Education (IIE) and the US Agency for International Development
(USAID) to provide US graduate business students with a ten-month opportunity to
provide management assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises in
developing countries.
Leadership
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and
graduate students and to qualified professionals in particular vocations.
It is the world's largest privately funded international scholarship program.
High achieving second-year students
are eligible for the
Goldman
Sachs Global Leaders Program. The program awards 150 $3,000
scholarships, and 75 of these Global Leaders are selected to attend the Goldman
Sachs Global Leadership Institute in New York City in July.
International Business
The
John T. Petters Scholarship is designed for undergraduate students who
are pursuing a study abroad program in international business.
African Americans
The United Negro College Fund's
Institute for International Public Policy offers several
international fellowship opportunities for African-American students.
England
The Davies-Jackson Scholarship Program is for exemplary students who are
among the first in their family to attend college. After two years of
study in England, candidates are awarded a Cambridge B.A. degree.
Japan
The Japanese
Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program provides exciting opportunities, even
for those who do not know Japanese.
Every year, the Japanese government invites thousands of
young college and university graduates from overseas to participate in the Japan
Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program throughout Japan. Established in 1987, the
program has earned a high reputation, both in Japan and overseas, for its
efforts in human and cultural exchanges, and has become one of the largest
cultural exchange programs in the world.
The
Bridging
Scholarships are offered to American undergraduate
students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private
foundations and major U.S. corporations has made it possible for ATJ to award
100 scholarships annually to assist students with the travel and living expenses
they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic
year. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible
to apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.
Germany
The
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals offers excellent
year-long work/internship opportunities in Germany for Americans ages 18-24.
German proficiency is recommended, but not required.
CBYX is primarily designed for business, engineering, technical,
vocational, and agricultural fields, though applicants from all fields may
apply.
The DAAD German
Academic Exchange Service provides study, research, and internship
opportunities for highly qualified undergraduates and graduate students in all
fields in Germany.
Italy
The
National Italian American Foundation offers scholarships to those of
Italian-American descent, or to those from any ethnic background who are
majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian Studies, or Italian American
Studies or a related field.
The Order of the Sons of Italy in America offers national leadership grants
and study abroad scholarships to those of Italian descent.
Middle East
Students considering a graduate
degree in science, engineering and technology should explore the
KAUST
Discovery Scholarships, sponsored by King Abdullah University of Science and
Technology in Saudi Arabia. This is a fully funded scholarship!
