Sept. 9, 2004 Now there’s a cure for the 10 p.m. munchies that requires no ready cash or transportation. The University Center’s food court has been open for the past three weeks and students can use meal cards to purchase food starting Sept. 13. “We were a little slow the first week since we only let people know by word of mouth and hadn’t really advertised yet,” retail supervisor Sandy Dau said. “The second week the flow really picked up and on the third week, the first week of school, we have been quite busy.” St. Ambrose students have paid with cash thus far. “Once the meal cards come into effect, I think it will be overwhelming with the number of students that will come in,” Dau said. When the meal cards begin to work, students have $100 to use at the food court and after that they can add money into their accounts as needed. The food court also has a Surprise Me feature. Students can add money to a friend’s account for birthdays or other special occasions. The new food court is an expansion from Stingers, the small snack bar that was located in the Beehive last year. “We were very busy in the Beehive, but our facility was too small,” Dau said. “Now with the food court we have a bigger facility, a larger variety to choose from, and longer hours to help us serve more students.” The food court is open seven days a week and has expanded its hours as well. The food court has a variety of menu choices. They have a C-Store, which is similar to a convenience store, which provides chips, candy and personal items. They also have a pizza area with traditional pizzas, like cheese and sausage, or gourmet pizzas, like taco and Barbecue chicken. Pasta is also offered in the pizza section. On the grill daily specials are offered and set days for certain student favorites like nacho bars, potato bars, mozzarella sticks and onion rings. The Etcetera area of the food court consists of items like; build your own wraps, chicken Caesar salads, taco bowls, and homemade soups. There will also be holiday specials throughout the year. The Fresh and Dairy section offers smoothies, microblast shakes, or parfaits. Seattle’s Best, a coffee shop, is also located in the food court. The menu for the food court will soon be posted on the St. Ambrose University website.Back to the FEATURES-PAGE or "The Buzz" HOMEPAGE |
