Sept. 23, 2004 The color yellow represents peace. The Lance Armstrong Foundation has given the color a new meaning: helping others. Lance Armstrong, a professional cyclist, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996. After a tough struggle and little hope that he would survive, he remained strong and ended up on the winning end. He beat the cancer and won the Tour De France in 1999. While in cancer treatments, he created the Lance Armstrong Foundation to give those with cancer practical information and tools needed to live strong. The Foundation is involved in advocacy, research and education programs. It also just created the newest fashion trend. Yellow bands can be seen all over the St. Ambrose campus. With the powerful message “LIVE Strong” written on them, they radiate color and inspiration. “I thought it was important to show my support for those who are struggling with cancer,” Jackie Paulson said. The bands are sold in both child and adult sizes online at www.laf.org or www.wearyellow.com. They are sold in packs of ten for $10. All proceeds benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
