When plans were in the making for the new Ed and Bobbi Rogalski Center, one thing needed for sure was an area for student clubs.  Over the past few years, different club meetings were held in various locations on and off campus; basically wherever the club leaders could find a spot.

On the first floor of the Rogalski Center, back behind the foot court, is a room designated for various campus clubs.  Its official name is the Student Leaderships Center.  The center consists of cubicles that have been assigned to various clubs on campus.

“Up til Dawn uses our assigned area mainly as a storage space, and the executive board uses it to get our work done when we have time,” said Anthony Loconsole.  “The room is definitely something that all the clubs need, even if some of them are not using the space.  Plus, the work room is fantastic.”

SGA uses the facility to sell discounted movie tickets on Thursday nights, as well as having groups work on projects, such as New Voters Project.  There are also senators who use the space to take care of miscellaneous work for campus.

“I can’t say that there’s an overwhelming use of the new Student Leadership Center yet,” SGA President Ben Kiel said.  “Like anything new, it will take time before people get used to the change.  Once the members of those clubs realize what a great resource we now have, the turnout will improve.”

“It says a lot about the university that they care about the work student clubs do,” said Loconsole.  He went on to say that a downfall is the location, which can be tricky to give directions to.  Loconsole also suggested putting more computers in the room.

Kiel is trying to encourage anyone who is a member of a club or organization to make use of the space.

“Not only does it give each club a space to call their own, but the added benefits of having a workroom stocked with art supplies, and a conference room are huge,” said Kiel.
