Feb. 24, 2005 It’s undeniable that college students are busy. During the course of a week, any student can assume the role of student, employee, roommate, friend or group leader. With so many commitments, it’s difficult to notice all the small elements and changes of the campus. In life it seems that the small elements are those that are easily overlooked, however sometimes they are the most important items. Sometimes just a little extra note is enough to remind us of all the small elements that were overlooked during the course of the week. So here are the items worth noting this issue. Thank you to the maintenance staff for placing gravel outside of the Sudbrook townhouses. Even though the snow is all melted, it is nice to have a place to walk from Hagen to that sidewalk without getting my shoes and pants muddy. This small improvement to campus is a huge blessing to those students who must dress professionally on a daily basis for whatever reason. If there is a worthy cause on campus it would be the Caroline Rasmussen medical fund. This incident reinforces that life can change in a heartbeat. Nothing can prepare an individual for such a life changing event, and during times like these it is important to rely on the goodwill of others. Currently the cost of the air ambulance is a problem for Rasmussen and her family. Given the size of the St. Ambrose community, if everyone contributed a little, it would make a huge difference to this family. I can’t think of a better place for a few extra dollars to go than to aid this family. Even if you can’t spare a few dollars, say a prayer for this family that has some hard times ahead of them. Spring Break is a little over a week away. The spring semester has flown by. It is about this time of the year that students begin to feel overwhelmed with the projects and homework that faces them on a daily basis. If you feel that your coursework is overbearing and you will never catch up, hang on for a few more days and a much needed break will be upon the St. Ambrose student body. Whether you are traveling to a tropical destination or staying at school, use that week to rest your mind and body. Along the same lines, the spring weather is making an appearance. Increased temperatures and more days of sunshine have graced the campus lately. Although it may be more difficult to attend afternoon classes as the climate increases, cherish the fact that soon those winter coats can be packed away and the only thing needed to walk to class will be a light coat or hoodie. Graduation on/or the end of the semester is less than three months away. It seems that the spring semester began only a few weeks ago and now spring break is closer than we ever imagined it would be. This point in the semester also means housing forum is coming up soon. For those of you who don’t have to worry about drama with your friends over this event, you’re among the lucky ones. But if you find yourself at odds with those you live with now or plan to live with next year, take a deep breath and remember that it’s just housing. Don’t waste these last few months fighting with friends over where to live next year. Don’t forget to enjoy each other before you have to go your separate ways. To those of you who are graduating, it is hard to believe that four (or five) years has come and gone and now we receive letters in our mailboxes about Senior Challenge. At the moment, the future may be hazy and frightening and for others it may be too far away and the only thing helping them pull through today. Whatever your attitude, make sure you find time to enjoy the last few “Ambrose” moments, whatever they may be.Back to the OPINIONS PAGE or "The Buzz" HOMEPAGE |
