Feb. 10, 2005 No lead is safe. For the Queen Bees that alone leaves a stinging sense of disgust as two games which were almost assuredly victories were lost in the final minutes. Most recently, the Queen Bees led a William Penn Lady Statesmen team that has been the bottom feeders of the MCC by as many as 11 in the second half before scoring just two baskets in the final 13:00. During that time William Penn put together enough offense to defeat the Queen Bees by the same margin, 71-60. After the gut wrenching loss the Queen Bees took on The Franciscan University of the Prairies in hopes of finding their winning ways once again. The Queen Bees rolled over the Saints thanks to a strong first half in which the Queen Bees missed just one of the 11 free throws they shot. Despite getting outscored in the second half, their 15 points halftime lead would more then suffice as they defeated TFU 79-69. Sophomore Jennifer Goetz returned to her early season prowess by scoring 27 points and pulling down 15 rebounds in the winning effort. Ashlie Maher came off the bench for SAU and chipped in 14 points of her own. With the win the Queen Bees go to 5-5 in conference, and are right in the middle of the pack. SAU will finish off the season in Cedar Rapids as they take on league leading Mt. Mercy. For now though, SAU will look to put together a few wins something they have not done in conference, and challenge once again for the conference title and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.Back to the SPORTS-PAGE or "The Buzz" HOMEPAGE |
