Front Street Brewery

Atmosphere:

KATIE: Front Street Brewery has a dark ambiance. There is a small designated area for the actual brewery section of the restaurant, while the dining section is farther into the restaurant and has limited seating. There are booths and high tables that are seated close to the sports bar.

LISA: The Brewery was so cozy! The lighting was dim and it seemed like the bar where everyone knows your name. There’s an actual brewery inside the restaurant/bar, which made it very unique. The bar was up against the back wall and the tables and booths lined the side, so it made everyone close and comfy.

Food:

KATIE: I decided on the walnut chicken sautéed and topped with a warm raspberry vinaigrette sauce. My meal came with delicious garlic mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and a cup of French onion soup. Aside from the not-so-pleasant soup, it was an interesting meal that I’m glad I tried. My chicken was prepared beautifully, however, the walnuts and raspberry topping made it very filling and I wasn’t able to eat much of my meal. But if you’re looking for a new treat to try, I suggest the walnut chicken!

LISA: For some reason, I felt like eating fish. So I delved into the fish and chips, which came with fries and cole slaw. The fish was battered perfectly and served with tartar sauce, which made the meal delicious. I was pretty full by the time I even thought about the fries, but they were seasoned just right - a little spice, a little potato.

Pricing and People:

KATIE: I must admit the pricing was a little steep, and for a broke college student, it may not be the right choice. The people on the other hand were delightful! After seeing my full cup of soup our waitress took it off the bill! The people were very sweet and accommodating. They were helpful with menu decisions and offered speedy service too!

LISA: I’ll agree with Katie, it was a bit steep, but well worth it. There were two sections to the menu: sandwiches and such and then "classier" dinner items. We chose from the "classier" side, which is why I think we paid more than we expected. Sandwiches ranged from $6 to $8 and entrees from $8 to $14. The minute I walked in, I felt like I was on the set of "Cheers." So, if that gives you any indication of the people -- they were great! Everyone was very welcoming. The service was fast and friendly and the bartender even broke out in song.

Complaints:

KATIE: My complaints were the small menu size, the high prices, but mostly the dull surroundings.

LISA: Although it was cozy, it was a little bit chilly inside! That’s my only complaint, though!

Jarhead:

KATIE: I’m not a fan of war movies so I was a little worried when we decided on this film, but what a surprise! The movie focuses on a soldier's (Jake Gyllenhaal) Desert Storm experience. It follows Gyllenhaal’s character through all the hardships soldiers go through. It is an amazing, bold story that seems to come out of nowhere and hits you smack in the face. Jamie Foxx plays staff Sgt. Sykes who doesn’t exactly give Gyllenhaal’s character, Swoff, an easy time. If you’re expecting a fast-paced war movie with people being shot at and killed…this is not the movie for you. If you enjoy real life stories with intense characters I highly recommend catching this flick. But don’t you worry girls, it’s not just a boy movie…the numerous nude scenes Gyllenhaal performs are above and beyond the worth of the movie ticket.

LISA: Jake Gyllenhaul was fabulous! Jarhead was all I expected it to be and more. Since I’m not one for blood and guts, I was glad there weren’t many fight scenes. But, there was still enough action to keep me satisfied. The story followed the ins-and-outs of Marine life. It was easy to see that without "real" fighting, the men still had a lot on their plates. It showed them bonding through their battles with family life and with the reality of returning home.

At times, the movie reminded me more of a college party than a war zone - except they had guns and were in the desert. The movie was well done from beginning to end - it made me appreciate the men and women who are serving our country and hope for their safe return home.
