November 11 through the 13 was Family Weekend at St. Ambrose University. Parents, siblings, and even some grandparents were seen around campus and at the many events that were offered throughout the weekend.
Starting off on Friday night at 8 p.m., families were entertained by a very talented hypnotist, Jim Wand. Later on that evening they enjoyed dessert in the ballroom, which was provided by the Alumni and Parent Relations Office.
The next morning there was a continental breakfast served at the Bishop’s House Inn on Brady Street. President and Mrs. Rogalski were both in attendance at the breakfast.
However, one of the most anticipated events of the weekend was the Fighting Bees football game vs. Olivet Nazarene University at the Brady Street Stadium.
"Both of my parents came for the weekend and they really enjoy football, so I took them to the game Saturday afternoon," student Elise Roling said. "They had a great time and it seemed like a lot of students brought their families to the game."
Roling said her parents wanted to come down because Family Weekend was the perfect opportunity for them to explore the campus more and learn more about where their daughter is living and attending classes.
Saturday evening continued with another event at the Rogalski Center. Social hour was at 5:30 p.m. and it was a great chance for SAU families to converse with one another. An hour later the dinner banquet began and parent of the year honors were given out.
Afterwards, families had the chance to listen to the six musical artists known as Chapter Six. That was the last scheduled event for Saturday night and the next morning, mass was offered at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Chapel.
The events of the weekend were finished after mass and most students said goodbye to their families late Sunday afternoon or evening.
Family Weekend at St. Ambrose was a busy one, jam-packed with activities.
Regardless of how many activities were attended, the weekend was a great time for families to meet new people and to experience SAU.
