On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court of the United States handed down a decision that changed history forever.  Roe v. Wade was the first case of its kind, and left a mark on women all over the world, declaring that abortions were both legal and constitutional.

Ever since that decision, pro-life individuals have gathered on the steps of the capitol for the annual March for Life rally.  This year, seven students from campus joined other high school and college students from around the nation in protest of the Supreme Court’s decision.

The weekend of the decision’s anniversary, students Kristen Blake, LeAnn Blindt, Chad Driscoll, Beth Imel, Patrick O’Hearn, Lorien Randolph and Helena Wonio prepared for the rally by attending the American Collegians for Life Conference at Catholic University of American in Washington D.C.

This conference included speakers Serrin Foster, the president of Feminist for Life, and Michaelene Jenkins, the executive director of the Life Resource Network.  The two spoke on the importance of a pro-life stance on abortion and how this decision has had a negative effect on women all over the world.

Monday, Jan. 24, 20,000 high school and college students from across the country gathered at the MCI Center in D.C. to share in the Holy Eucharist before joining the crowd lining Constitution Avenue.

Later that morning, the seven Ambrosians for Life held the St. Ambrose banner among a sea or pro-lifers from all over the country in an effort to voice their dedication to life.

Standing next to the students from St. Ambrose were members of the group Silent-No-More, all of whom were carrying signs reading, “I regret my abortion,” while a group of high school students from Florida sported t-shirts with the message, “Thanks Mom!”

Norma McCorvey, the original Roe in the case, also made an appearance before the march began.  She has recently approached the Supreme Court and is now requesting that the case be reopened and the original decision overturned.
