Feb. 24, 2005 In Catich Gallery currently sit works of art that are full of movement and perspective. Bricks, while they flow through the drawings, seem as pliable as water. This is what the works of art by Brigham Dimick have to offer. He leaves the designs open-ended to allow audiences to make up their own minds. The works “allow the viewer to consider a world of the eternally self-creating," according to Dimick. He is an art professor at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. Although he has two degrees in painting, Dimick just started to focus on drawing five years ago. His work will be hanging in the gallery until Friday, Feb. 25. At 3 p.m. on the 25, Dimick will give an artist talk until 4:30. Then from 5 to 7 p.m., there will be a closing reception. Anyone is welcome to come. The next artist to grace the walls of Catich Gallery will be Pat Green. She is an independent artist and painter from Iowa City. She works in oils and paints images of backyard views and country hillsides. Her smaller paintings prompt memories of summer days. She depicts light and shadow to imply mood and the time of day. Her opening day is Mar. 18. Artists showcased in Catich Gallery are chosen by the art department, and the are usually artists from the region. “We try to make the work relate to what we teach here,” said the Art Department Chair, Kristin Quinn, art department chair. The gallery houses five changing exhibitions a year. The exhibits can be anything from paintings to drawings. Once a year the gallery displays the work of Father Edward Catich, who founded the art department at St. Ambrose. His major pieces primarily include slates, watercolors and ink drawings. |
