The St. Ambrose University Campus Activities Board (CAB) announced that the 2005 spring concert will be played by up-and-coming country band Emerson Drive. The band is made of up five young musicians who are riding a recent wave of success, as last year they were on tour with Shania Twain serving as her opening act.

CAB is teaming up with local country radio station WLLR to bring Emerson Drive to Davenport. The decision to choose Emerson Drive was a collective effort made by CAB Special Events Chair Lauren Parchem and CAB Advisor Veronica Riepe. While Emerson Drive is known by some, others may be questioning why SAU selected a country band.

“This year we decided to change it up a bit,” Parchem said.  “In the past we’ve brought mainly alternative rock groups and we figured why not bring a country band to SAU and see how it’s received.”

Joining forces with WLLR should also help boost ticket sales by informing the surrounding community.

“Working with WLLR has been really nice,” Parchem said.  “They’re great people who are just as committed as we are to making this concert a success, and with the ads that they’ve been running I’m anticipating a solid turnout.”

In their short career thus far, Emerson Drive won Top New Vocal Duo/Group at the 2003 Country Music Awards, and also won the Billboard Music Award for Best New Country artist in 2002. Emerson Drive achieved their success thanks to hit songs such as “I Should Be Sleeping,” which made it to the top five on the Billboard charts, and “Fall Into Me,” which reached number one on CMT’s Top Twenty Countdown.

Tickets have been on sale all week on the first floor of the Rogalski Center.  Prices are $12.50 for SAU students with a current ID and regular price is $20.00.  CAB feels the low ticket prices will encourage a big student turnout.

The concert will be held in the Adler Theatre in downtown Davenport on Apr. 7at 7:30 p.m.  For more information contact the CAB office at 333-6395.
