The MidWest Urban Fest, a showcase of local and regional artists, will hit the stage of the Col Ballroom on Saturday April 9, at 8:30 p.m. The doors will open at 7 p.m.

“The idea to do the MidWest Urban Fest was generated from being on [KALA] 88.5,” said Tiana Washington, a student DJ known to her listeners as DJ Powder.

“[KALA] gets a lot of music from unsigned artists or independent rap labels,” Washington said. “So, I decided I wanted to do something with all that music, and I decided to throw an all ages concert-style event.”

Washington said the venue would be set up with the younger crowd encouraged to be on the main floor, and a VIP section would be available for those who are over twenty-one in the balcony.

The show will feature up-and-coming musical acts and dancers, as well as local artists trying to find an audience for their music.

Tickets are $10 in advance, and are available at Coop Records and Brady Mart in Davenport. More information can be found by calling 563-579-0512.

The event is not connected with KALA or St. Ambrose University.
