The St. Ambrose women's volleyball season may be over, but the playoffs have just begun.
The Queen Bees clinched their place at fourth in conference last Wednesday when they brought home a win of 3-1 against William Penn.
All though they accomplished their team goal of placing in the top half of the conference, it wasn’t as easy as it looked.
"The girls had to work through a lot of adversity in the beginning of the season," assistant coach Jim Finn said. "They needed to stay positive and realize they can compete with any team they face."
With a team member kicked off the team, the girls had to rally together to improve their game and accomplish their goals for the 2005 season.
They did just that and finished the season with a record of 16-14.
This year's team turned out to be youthful having a senior-less roster. Juniors Kelly Grimes and Andrea Brooks stepped up to the challenge and were named as the teams co-captains.
The Queen Bees battled their way through the Quad City Classic Tournament and the Big Guns Tournament the last two weekends where they came out with a record of 3-1 and 1-3 respectively.
"They started the season off a little rough," Finn said. "But they have really come together and are playing really well."
Their first playoff game will be held in Lee Lohman arena on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. against Viterbo.
If the Queen Bees continue on in the playoffs they will travel to play Wednesday, Nov. 9 against the no. 1 seated team, Iowa Wesleyan.
