The Department of Theology forms part of the College of Arts and Sciences and helps provide the general educational requirements for all students. Through the Chair of Catholic Studies, and other university departments, the Department of Theology helps sponsor noted lecturers on campus for the benefit of students, faculty and administration.

The Department of Theology attempts to communicate the discipline of theology as a speculative science (faith seeking understanding) and at the same time to meet both the needs of the individual through courses in morality, worship, prayer, spirituality and the faith community by providing courses in pastoral theology, ministry, social justice and ecumenical studies.

Ambrose HallWith a broad range of courses in scripture, systematic and moral theology, church history, pastoral theology, and liturgical/sacramental theology, the department offers both a theology major and minor. It combines the theoretical, practical, and pastoral aspects of theology as a basis for a ministries concentration within the theology major.

The department also works closely with the Master of Pastoral Studies program through faculty and source sharing. In addition, the department provides our college seminarians with the theological foundations necessary for the major seminary.

Continuing the tradition of St. Ambrose University's emphasis on issues of justice, peace and social teaching of the Catholic Church, the Theology and Philosophy Departments jointly sponsor an Interdisciplinary Minor in Peace and Justice.
