Peace and Justice Interdisciplinary Minor
Continuing the long tradition of St. Ambrose in the area of Catholic
social teaching and peace and justice issues, the Theology Department
jointly with the Philosophy Department sponsors an Interdisciplinary
Minor in Peace and Justice.
This minor is an 18-credit configuration of courses in the Theology
and Philosophy departments and courses related to peace and justice from
at least two other departments. Required courses are Theology 362
(Social Justice), Philosophy 343 (Ethics of Peace and Non-violence), and
the capstone Interdisciplinary Seminar in Peace and Justice.
The seminar engages the students in readings, discussions and
research projects and presentations on some major issues related to
peace and justice. Often a professor from another department is invited
to participate in the seminar offering their expertise in justice issues
related to economic, social or biological/environmental questions.
To apply for the program, the student, with an advisor, prepares a
proposed course of study and submits it to the coordinators of the Peace
and Justice Minor. Applicants are encouraged to make use of courses in
their major area that involves peace and justice issues.
