Women's records fall as '07 outdoor season begins
The St. Ambrose women’s track and field teams continue to shatter records.
After an indoor season that saw a pair of records fall, two more have been broken in the last five days.
On Saturday at the rain-shortened Viking Olympics, the distance medley relay (1200-400-800-1600) of Katelynn Krahn (So., Mother McAuley),
Stephanie Reagan (So., Moline), Sarah Sheedy (Sr., Davenport North),
and Jessica Olsen (Jr., Prophetstown) broke a nine-year old school record by nearly 26 seconds. Their time of 13:19.33 was broke the 13:45.09 set by St. Ambrose All-American Patches Elmore, Kim Beelner, Beth Abhalter and Andrea Raske back in 1998. Krahn, Reagan and Sheedy were a part of the distance medley crew that also broke the indoor school record this winter.
On Wednesday at a frigid Loras Mid-Week, Johnna Gamble (Sr., Davenport West)
broke her own school record by more than two feet. Gamble’s toss of 41.99m (137-9) was her first throw of the season after having the event rained out at Augustana on Saturday. Gamble holds the school record in the hammer and the discus, and has previously qualified for nationals in the discus.
