COMM ALUMNI NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER

Our SAU COMM Alumni Facebook group continues to grow. It now has more than 300 members. There are TV11 and KALA groups on Facebook as well. Check them out as another source for photos and video clips.

Every two years we try to take a “Fine Arts and Communications Tour” to New York City. Our next scheduled visit to the Big Apple is January 3-7, 2010. We again hope to meet up with our alumni and friends in radio, television and theater.

KALA is now at 10,000 watts full-time as of mid-afternoon, October 28. Ken Colwell ’73, David Baker ’87 powered down the old transmitter in the Galvin Fine Arts Center (it will remain as a back-up) and fired up the new system located on the outskirts of NW Davenport.

I got the chance to meet up with many of you at Homecoming 2009. They included: Kevin Prior ’99, Jason Kratt ’05, Matt Carroll ’06, Katie Spain ’02, Amy (Hoover) Jones ’02, Jessica Denney ’09, Randi Baldwin ’08, Dan Burich ’86, Ali Callahan ’08, Cate Koester ’08, Pete Ivanic ’96, Ken Colwell ’73, Erin Girsch ’94, Ted Stephens ’01, Kelli Hoag ’94, and Ryan Wild ’03.

Jill Gansemer ’98 writes, “As may of you know, Sept 2-13, I was volunteering in Peru. It was an adventure that I will never forget… I realized we take a lot of things for granted… I hope through my journal you will be able to see what I saw, and experience what I experienced. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers…”

Bryan Bobb ’91, chief news photographer for WHBF-TV, writes, “I am doing well and still working hard (or hardly working) over at CBS4… If you have any students interested in internships we would love to have them and help teach them about the TV business.”

Clay Sander ’92 is the featured performer for “Clay Sander and Friends” at Meiley-Swallow Hall on the North Central College Campus in Naperville, 8pm, November 7. The show, directed by his wife, Kathy (Mensick) ’92, will be a mixture of stand-up, sketch and improvisational comedy. The proceeds will benefit the Naperville Jaycees. Show information can be found at: http://finearts.northcentralcollege.edu/x49524.xml

Elizabeth (Hamilton) Guarino ’91 is enjoying continued success as founder and owner of “Best Ever You”. The mother of four boys has also authored a children’s book, “Blueberry, A Cat’s Eye View of Maine”. Check out: http://www.besteveryou.com/ and http://www.elizabethhamiltonguarino.com/
