Hot Shooting Ignites Queen Bees
Springfield, Illinois—
The Queen Bees shot lights out as they connected on 58.7% of their field goal
attempts. They also set a school record by nailing 14 three pointers, which
broke the previous mark 0f 12 set in 2000 against Trinity International.
Playing even for most of the first half, the Queen Bees held a slim lead at
28-24 with 5:50 to play. Following a 30 second timeout, the Queen Bees went on a
19-6 run to close the half and to put the game out of reach.
Junior Casey Breitbach started the run by connecting on a three pointer off a
Callie Sobaski offensive rebound. Then, freshman Whitney Rumbold went to work.
Rumbold had back-to-back steals and converted them for easy lay-ups. Following a
basket by Springfield, Rumbold knocked down a three pointer off a Casey
Breitbach assist. In just under a minute and a half, Rumbold forced two
turnovers and scored 7 straight points for the Bees.
Ali Dolphin knocked in one of two free throws to end the run as the Queen Bees
took a 47-30 lead into the half.
As hot as the Bees were in the first half, they shot even better in the second
half, connecting on 20-31 shots (64.5%) and hit 6-12 three pointers. Once again,
the Queen Bees closed the half strong by rattling off a 27-10 run over the final
8 minutes of the game.
Jenny Clark tied her career-high with 24 pointers, while hitting 9-17 from the
field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. Clark was also one assist shy of a double
double.
Callie Sobaski scored 14 points for the Bees on 7-9 shooting from the field. Ali
Dolphin, Whitney Rumbold and Amy Fulfs each added 12 points for SAU.
With the win, the Queen Bees improve to 2-1 on the season. They will host NAIA
Division I Olivet Nazarene on November 12th.
