Queen Bees go 1-2 in St. Xavier tourney

CHICAGO, IL-

The Queen Bees basketball team stumbled a bit in the St. Xavier tourney as they finished 1-2 on the weekend.

In their first game, the Queen Bees held a 17-point lead at 22-5 with 12:38 to go in the first half and ended up losing to Spring Arbor 78-71. After jumping on to of Spring Arbor early, the Queen Bees were outscored 73-49 over the final 32 minutes of the game.

The Queen Bees had three players reach double digits in defeat. Jenny Clark finished with a game-high 20 points on 8-18 shooting from the field. Clark hit 3-10 shots from beyond the arc and finished with four assists and three steals.

Whitney Rumbold finished with 14 points, five assists and seven rebounds. Rumbold knocked in 6-10 shots and hit 2-3 from three.

Ali Dolphin rounded out the Bees top scorers with a 4-8 performance for 10 points. Dolphin was 2-2 from the line with 5 rebounds and four assists.

In the second match-up, the Queen Bees took on St. Francis (IL) and put them away 71-64.  This time the Bees grew a good sized lead in the first half and continued to build on it in the second half.

Taking a 37-29 advantage at the half, the Queen Bees led by as many as 16 in the second half. SAU held its biggest lead when Casey Breitbach knocked down a three pointer to put the Queen bees up 52-36 with 12:31 to go.

St. Ambrose, which started off shooting hot, finished by converting 41.8% of their shots for the game. SAU started off by knocking down 56.5% of their shots in the first half, but hit only 31.3% of their attempts in the second half. They limited St. Francis to 26-70 (37.1%) shooting from the field and made eight more free throws (16-24) than St. Francis even attempted (5-8).

Jenny Clark led the Bees in scoring again with 18 points on 6-14 shooting from the field, including 4-7 from three. Clark was 2-4 from the line and grabbed four rebounds.

Ali Dolphin recorded 15 points on 6-14 shooting and finished with five rebounds and four assists. Whitney Rumbold and Callie Sobaski rounded out the Bees scoring with 11 and 10 point performances.

In their final game of the St. Xavier tourney, the Queen Bees fell to William Jewell 76-66.

The Queen Bees allowed their opponent to hit 50% of their field goal attempts for the first time in eight games.

William Jewell knocked in 24-48 shots from the field, including 11-19 from beyond the arc. The bees committed 19 personal fouls and William Jewell converted by hitting 17-27 shots from the line.

Hillary Adams led William Jewell with 23 points. She hit 7-9 shots from three and was 2-2 from the line.

Jenny Clark and Ali Dolphin led SAU with 18 and 16 points. Clark went 6-14 from the field and 4-10 from three. She also had four rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Dolphin dropped in her 16 on 5-14 shooting from the field and 6-8 shooting from the line. She had six boards, four assists and three steals in 32 minutes of action.

With the 1-2 mark on the weekend, the Queen Bees are now 13-3 on the season. They wil be back in action when they host the Viterbo Lady V-hawks on January 5th to resume Midwest College Conference play.
