Women's Golf

Frequently Asked Questions

Q-  Can I receive a scholarship to play golf?

A- Absolutely.  SAU is very pleased to offer scholarships to qualified women to play golf.  The amount of the award varies based on playing ability and the number of scholarships we currently are giving out.  For more information about scholarships contact Coach Orfitelli.

Q- Does a player have to pay for anything?

A- There are some incidental costs to being a member of the team but for the most part SAU covers all the costs of practice, traveling, shirts and bags.  Each player is expected to have clubs, balls and the like.  The program can assist players in securing equipment.

Q- Where does SAU practice and play?

A-  We are very fortunate to practice and play at Emeis GC in Davenport, IA.  Emeis has a grass driving range, practice green for short game, and an additional putting green.  The golf program covers all costs associated with practicing and playing.  Emeis is also located about 5 minutes from campus making getting to practice quite convenient.

Q- How many people are on the team?

A- It depends on the strength of the individuals.  The team is usually between 12-15 players.  We have both a varsity and JV team, depending on the number of golfers each season.

Q- How does one join the team and how do you determine who makes the team?

A-  Anyone is allowed to come for golf tryouts which occur the week before school begins in late August.  After four practice or qualifying rounds we decide who makes the team based on how well you played and your attitude. Our goal is to keep as many as players as possible who can benefit from being on the team.

Q- How good is the team?

A-  Very good.  We consistently qualify for NAIA Nationals and have won the conference the past five years.
